Placing fields on the document
Fields are the boxes your signers fill in: where they sign, initial, write a date or tick a box. You place them on the pages of your PDF, and each field belongs to one person.
Choose who the field is for
Above the fields on the left is Placing fields for, showing one person. Every field you place goes to that person, in their colour. Change the person before placing their fields. You can also change who a field belongs to afterwards, in the field’s settings under Assigned to.
Place a field
- Drag: drag a field from the left panel and drop it on the page where it belongs.
- Click to place: select a field on the left, then click the spot on the page. A strip at the top also offers buttons for each page, if you’d rather add it to a page and move it afterwards. Press Escape or Cancel to stop.
- Search: type in Find a field to find a field type, or a field you already placed. Placed fields are listed under On the document with their page; select one to jump to it.
The guide strip above the page tells you what is still missing, such as a person without a signature field, and has a button to fix it.
Move and resize
- Move: drag the field. Lines appear when it lines up with other fields on the page, and it snaps to them.
- Resize: drag the handle in the bottom-right corner.
- Exact sizes: in the field’s settings choose Small, Medium or Large, or open Settings (or Advanced) and type an exact width, height and position as a percentage of the page.
- Same size everywhere: Copy size and Paste size copy one field’s size to another. Use this size for every makes every field of that type the same size. New fields remember the last size you used for that type.
Select several fields at once
- Hold Shift (or Ctrl) and click fields to add them to the selection.
- Drag across an empty part of the page to draw a box around several fields. Hold Shift to add to what is already selected.
- Press Ctrl+A to select every field on the current page.
- Drag any selected field and they all move together. Use Duplicate all or Delete all in the panel on the right.
- With two or more selected, the Align menu lines up their left edges, centres, right edges, tops, middles or bottoms, or makes them all the same size, width or height.
Copy, paste, duplicate and undo
- Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) put copies onto the page you are looking at, so it is easy to repeat fields on another page.
- Duplicate (Ctrl+D) makes a copy just next to the original.
- Delete (Delete or Backspace) removes the selected fields.
- Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y) step backwards and forwards through every change, including moving and resizing.
On a Mac, use Cmd instead of Ctrl.
Using the keyboard
- Tab moves between fields. The arrow keys move the selected field; hold Shift to move it faster.
- Alt plus the arrow keys resizes it.
- Delete removes it, and Escape clears the selection or stops placing.
Zoom and moving between pages
- Use Zoom in and Zoom out in the toolbar, choose a size from the list (50% to 300%), or hold Ctrl and use the mouse wheel. Ctrl+0 goes back to Fit width.
- The Pages tab on the right shows a small picture of each page with how many fields it has. Select one to jump to it.
- Your zoom and whether the right panel is open are remembered for next time. On a phone the editor always opens at fit width.
- The Show the right panel button opens and closes the panel on the right, to give the page more room.
On a phone or tablet
Everything works by touch: drag fields from the panel, tap a field to select it, drag it to move it and drag the corner handle to resize it. For detailed work a larger screen is easier, and your draft is saved so you can carry on from any device.
Saving
There is no save button. Every change is saved as you make it, and the top bar shows Saving…, then Saved. If it shows Not saved, check your internet connection and keep the page open: your changes stay on the page and are saved with your next change once you are back online.
